Black Star Riders – The Killer Instinct

BSR delivers a stellar sophomore album, and welcomes Robbie Crane on bass guitar and decorated rock producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains) into the fold.

“Quite simply, I haven’t had this much fun making an album since the debut Brother Cane release. Much of that energy came from my enthusiasm in the new songs and in having Robbie join the band. But when we started work with Nick, everything felt fresh and musical and inspiring; he was totally the 6th member of the band. Ricky stepped up his game lyrically and vocally, and this is (in my opinion) the best studio drum performance of Jimmy’s illustrious career. Was again exciting to work with Scott on harmony guitar parts; I’m grateful for his musical trust in me. On a personal level, I’ve never been more pleased with my lead guitar playing. Highlights are “Blindsided”, “The Killer Instinct”, ” Soldierstown”, trading off with Scott on “Bullet Blues” and “You Little Liar”. The only thing I was lukewarm on was the album cover. I respect that some of the guys are passionate about old wartime classic pin-up girl art; but this one was too sexist for me (compared to our debut album). Ah, bands…so many damn compromises.”
